  1. New Scientist has a brief article entitled "Free Will is not an Illusion After All," which discusses a recent study by Judy Trevena and Jeff Miller which purportedly puts pressure on Libet's infamous studies on conscious volition (or the lack thereof).
  2. The Observer has a nice piece by Margaret Talbot on neuroenhancement entitled "Can a Daily Pill Boost Your Brain Power?"
  3. WIRED has published a string of recent articles on fMRI, lie detection, and memory--see here, here, and here.
  4. Machines Like Us has a nice post on the biological and neural substrates of violence and aggression entitled "What Shapes Antisocial Behavior?"
  5. Psychiatric News has a brief overview of some exciting new findings by Koya et al.(2009) which suggest that it is possible to dampen cocaine cravings by disrupting specific neurons in the nucleus accumbens.
  6. Finally, Talking Brains has a concise post  about recent work by Raizada and Poldrack (2007) on the localization problem and normalizing fMRI data.

Dead Fish, Brain Activity, and Multiple Comparisons Correction A hat tip goes to both the Neuroskeptic and Prefrontal.org for bringing this interesting poster presentation by Craig Bennett, Abigail Baird, Mike Miller, and George Wolford to my attention. In short, Bennett et al. show that if you don't use multiple comparisons correction, you can use fMRI to reveal brain activity in a dead fish! This ads a whole new twist to the notion of fishing for results!
