CALL FOR PROPOSALS: GUIDELINES

Proposals should be one to two pages in length and should include:
• A brief description of your academic/professional background;
• A statement of your interest in this topic and what you would offer to the discussion;
• A description of a particular issue or question that engages with, or could shed light on, issues at the intersections of the neurosciences and law, philosophy, economics, ethics, or other aspects of the cultural/social/political sphere, and a brief description of how you might approach this issue or question.

Proposals must be submitted by February 15, 2012

TILTing Perspectives on the Stand

TILTing Perspectives is a series of bi-annual international conferences, organized by the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology and Society (TILT) at Tilburg University in the Netherlands. TILT is a multidisciplinary institute conducting research into the legal and social implications of various emerging (fields of) technologies, ranging from information and communication technologies, to bio- and nanotechnologies, to neurotechnologies and robotics.

TILT is happy to announce the next conference of this series, entitled

TILTing Perspectives 2011: 
Technologies on the stand: Legal and ethical questions in neuroscience and robotics

This conference focuses on the legal and ethical questions raised by the application of neuroscience and robotics in a number of contexts. Think, for instance, of the following examples:

• the use of  neurotechnologies in the legal arena, in therapy, and for human enhancement;
• the advent of robot technologies in home and hospital environments, but also in war.

In this two-day conference we aim to bring together national and international experts from the fields of law, robotics and neuroscience, and to facilitate discussion between lawyers, legal scholars, psychologists, social scientists, philosophers, neuroscientists and policy makers.

Call for Papers AJOB Neuroscience

Paul Wolpe asked me to pass along the following CFP from AJOB Neuroscience:

Now, I seek submissions from you, your colleagues, and your graduate students.  

First, we are encouraging general submissions to the journal.  Please consider submitting articles yourself or with collaborators, and please forward the attached call to your colleagues and graduate students.  

Second, we are planning a special issue on the controversies around free will and agency in neuroscience.  Please consider contributing to that special issue, and forwarding that special call to colleagues and graduate students.  Letters of intent are due in July and the papers in August.
